"We will always stand by our TRNC brothers for international recognition": Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that they will always stand by their Turkish Cypriot brothers for the international recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an independent state.

Aliyev made the call in an international forum titled: “Towards a New World Order” held at ADA University in Baku, which was attended by more than 80 experts from 44 countries.

Evaluating the relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Aliyev said that he maintains contact with TRNC President Ersin Tatar.

Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan played an active role in the TRNC becoming an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and reminded that President Ersin Tatar was invited to the Informal Summit of the OTS held in Shusha.

Recalling that the TRNC flag was flown at the OTS Summit in Shusha, Aliyev said: "We are always by the side of our brothers. Our policy has always been clear. We have no other agenda in this matter. We only think about how we can help our brothers preserve their states. They deserve this historically and by virtue of what they have done."

Aliyev recalled that the TRNC voted "yes" to the Annan Plan, while the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus rejected it, and stated: "What happened afterward? The Greek Cypriot side was accepted into the European Union. Is this fair? This is a clear example of double standards. Our TRNC brothers should rest assured that we will always stand by them in their quest for recognition as an independent state by the international community."

Few Questions:

Does Azerbaijan have direct flight to north Cyprus yet?

Does it have an embassy in north Cyprus?

Does it carry out direct trade with north Cyprus?
