Two arrested for drug possession and theft

Two young men, who are accused of unlawful possession of drugs and theft in Lefkosa, will remain in custody for one more day as part of the investigation while another suspect is being sought by the police.

The suspects, SHT and AHZ were arrested on Wednesday April 16 in Lefkosa and brought to court on Thursday charged with unlawful possession of drugs and theft.

Police in a court testimony said at around 4:20 am on April 16, one of the suspects entered the residence of Ali İhsan Muhammed located in Lefkosa through a window and stole a Dell-branded laptop worth 15,000 TL from the living room table, as well as 350 Euros kept in a wardrobe in the bedroom.

Following a complaint, an investigation was launched, and it was determined that the person who entered the house that day was SHT.

During a search of SHT, police found a substance believed to be cannabis (weighing 5 grams) in the pocket of his trousers and took it as evidence.

The officer also informed the court that during a search of the suspect’s backpack, the stolen laptop and its charger were found.

As a result of the broader investigation, the suspect AHZ was identified.

The officer emphasized that there is still a person being sought and further statements need to be taken, and therefore requested one more day of detention for the suspects.
