Turkish Cypriot students wore black t-shirts to school on Friday in support of their teachers
Students of Bekirpaşa High School in northern Cyprus came to school today wearing black t-shirts to support their teachers as part of the 'Come Wear Your T-shirt' campaign, aimed at 'Lighting the Fire of Action' against the Disciplinary Regulation."
The Cyprus Turkish Teachers' Union (KTÖS), together with the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS), along with supporting organizations, political parties, and trade unions, “light the fire of action” today at 6:00 PM in front of the Parliament in protest against the Disciplinary (Amendment) Regulation.
Previously, on April 11, students went to school wearing slippers as part of the “Put On Your Slippers and Come” movement in support of their teachers. This time, for the day of protest, they launched a new initiative: “Put On Your T-shirt and Come.” At Bekirpaşa High School, students showed their support for their teachers by wearing black clothing.
In a call made by the students of Bekirpaşa High School, the message was: “Dress in black, just like they’re trying to do to your country! Don’t stay silent! Don’t forget Atatürk, don’t let others forget! The future is in your hands!”
