An individual who was found to have stayed in north Cyprus illegally for more than three years will remain in custody for 3 days as part of the investigation.

The individual named as ROW was identified and arrested on Friday April 11 and was brought to court on charges of residing in northern Cyprus without a permit.

Police in a court testimony against the suspect said on April 11, 2025, the suspect came to the Gönyeli Police Station, where an immigration check revealed that he had been residing in the TRNC illegally for a total of 1,263 days since October 26, 2021.

The suspect was arrested right there.

According to the police, the suspect verbally stated that he “wants to return to his country.” The officer noted that the suspect was brought before the Lefkosia District Court on April 11 and was remanded in custody for an initial 3 days.

The police added that the investigation is ongoing and that inquiries will be made into what the suspect was doing during her time staying illegally in the country.

The officer further stated, “Deportation procedures against the suspect are still in progress. If released, he is likely to continue committing the same offense. In light of these facts, I request that the suspect remain in police custody for an additional 3 days.”
