Student arrested for illegal residency set to be deported
A Nigerian national accused of residing illegally in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), appeared in court again today as the deportation process initiated against him is ongoing.
The individual, EOF, 24 was arrested on April 3 for living illegally in Northern Cyprus. He was brought to court for the second time on Tuesday April 8.
The police stated that on April 3rd, a police team from the Gönyeli Police Station identified the suspect, on Kasırga Street in Gönyeli. During an immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without permission for a total of 1,095 days since April 4, 2022.
The officer explained that the suspect was arrested and brought before the court on April 4th, and a three-day detention order was obtained against him. The officer also noted that during this period, a letter was sent to the Civil Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior regarding the suspect’s deportation.
The police requested an additional three-day detention to complete the investigation and proceed with the deportation process.
