Man who stabbed his cousin multiple times in north Cyprus said he saw the incident in a dream
An individual, who was accused of attacking his cousin with a knife during the incident that took place within a construction site in north Cyprus wants to be deported.
The suspect Özgür Bekmez, a Turkish national who stabbed his uncle's son inside the Presidential Complex under construction in the Metehan District of Lefkosia, was arrested and brought to court.
The police stated that at around 12:20 pm on Wednesday April 9, in front of a cafeteria, the suspect attempted to kill one MB (E-24) by stabbing him in the elbow, forehead, back and lip with a knife he had illegally in his possession, on the grounds that he constantly saw the incident in his dreams and was psychologically unstable.
The victim who was seriously injured in the attack was taken to Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa after the police intervened.
The suspect said that he constantly saw M. B. in his dreams, that he was uncomfortable, and that he stabbed him to get rid of him.
The police also stated that the suspect had psychological problems, that he had received inpatient treatment in Türkiye for a month, and that this matter would be investigated.
Noting that the knife used in the incident had not yet been found, that the investigation was ongoing, and that statements would be taken from eyewitnesses, the police requested that the suspect be allowed to remain in detention for another 8 days.
Speaking in court, the suspect repeated that he had problems and said, “Deport me.”
