Man detained for trying to enter north Cyprus with a fake passport
A foreign national was arrested at Ercan Airport after he attempted to enter the north Cyprus with a fake Spanish passport.
The suspect was named as DB was charged with "Putting a forged document into use" and "attempting to obtain registration through fraudulent behavior."
According to the police, at around 21:45 on April 9, 2025, at Ercan Airport, the suspect attempted to use a fake Spanish passport—issued in his name and sent to him by mail from abroad by an unknown individual—to pass through immigration.
He handed the forged document to an immigration officer on duty, thereby committing the offenses in question. The police noted that the suspect was caught in the act and arrested on the same day.
The officer stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during his statement and was granted a one-day extension after appearing in court.
The passport has been sent to the Document Examination Branch of the General Directorate of Police for further analysis. Although the investigation is ongoing, the officer noted that the suspect can no longer influence the remaining part of the inquiry.
It was also revealed that the suspect is a Nepalese national with no legal status in the country, and the officer requested that he be held in custody during the trial process.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspect remain in prison for a period not exceeding one month.
