Man detained for stabbing

An individual who stabbed another with a knife during a disagreement between them was sent to prison pending trial.

The incident occurred in Gonyeli on Saturday April 5.

The suspect Baran Şencan, was arrested and brought to court on Sunday April 6 on charges of “Injury and Unlawful Carrying of a Knife”. 

Police said the incident took place on April 5, 2025 at around 05:30 in a fight that took place on Atatürk Street, a public place in Gönyeli.

The police told the court that during the fight, the suspect, Baran Şencan, a resident of Lefkosia, illegally possessed and carried a knife with a blade length of 5 cm and a total length of 10 cm, which he inserted and pulled out twice into the calf of the right leg of A.Ş., a resident of Lefkosia causing two 2 cm cuts on the calf of the aforementioned person's foot.

The police stated that the complainant A.Ş. was discharged on the same day after receiving first aid treatment at the Lefkoşa Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital Emergency Service, and that the suspect Baran Şencan was identified and arrested in accordance with the pending warrant.

Following the suspect’s arrest, police said that as a result of a search conducted at his residence in Hamitköy between 00.30-00.50 in accordance with a court order, the knife he used in the incident was detected and taken as evidence.

Noting that the statements made by the suspect regarding the issue will be confirmed and refuted, the police stated that the knife from which evidence was taken will be sent for fingerprint examination and initially requested that the suspect be detained by the police for 3 days for investigation purposes.
