Foreigner arrested for smashing a car window released on bail

Man who was accused of breaking a vehicle’s window with a stone during a fight in Gönyeli, has been released on bail pending trial.

The suspect YM, a Moroccan national, was arrested and brought to court after breaking the window of a car belonging to Ibrahim Naser during a fight on Şht. Caner Gönyeli Street in Gönyeli on April 10.

In court, the police stated that the suspect was arrested for the crime of intentional damage. 

On April 1, 2025, around 23:30, during a fight between two groups on Şht. Caner Street in Gönyeli, Moataz intentionally threw a stone, which he had picked up, at the rear window of Naser’s car, causing an estimated damage of 20,000 TL.

The police officer also mentioned that the suspect was identified on April 10, 2025. Witnesses confirmed seeing Moataz throw the stone and break the car’s window. In his statement, Moataz admitted to the crime. The police also noted that he was in the country on a student visa and requested that he be granted bail.

In court, Moataz expressed regret for his actions and stated that he voluntarily surrendered to the police.

The judge ordered that the suspect be released on bail on the condition that he is banned from travelling abroad, report to the nearest police station once a wee, pay a cash bail of 15,000 TL and bring a surety to sign a bond of 100,000 TL.
