A woman who was arrested for defrauding an individual on social media with the promise to of obtaining a pre-authorization permit in north Cyprus has been detained for 2 days.
The woman as CCE, a Turkish national was brought to court on charges of "obtaining money through fraud".
Police officer who presented the facts in court stated that on March 4, 2025, a person of Turkmen nationality came to the Gönyeli Police Station and, in their statement, claimed that in February 2024, they had communicated with a person named CCE on the social networking site Facebook.
They agreed to pay 10,000 USD in exchange for obtaining pre-authorization for four friends in Turkmenistan and for purchasing flight tickets. The person transferred 10,000 USD to the account number of one C.N.D. on Feb. 14, 2025. However, on March 1, 2025, they discovered that the flight tickets had not been paid for and that the pre-authorizations sent to them were fake, leading them to file a complaint.
The police stated that the suspect was arrested on the same day and an investigation was initiated.
According to the police, in the suspect's verbal statement, she claimed that he had authorized his brother in Turkey to use the bank account in his name and that her brother was managing the account in question. The police, noting that the investigation had just begun, stated that there were further statements to be taken and security camera footage to be reviewed, and requested additional detention time.
The suspect's lawyer argued that his client had entrusted the account to her brother by proxy. The police reminded the court that the suspect had been arrested for a similar offense in February and had made the same claim about her brother using the account at that time as well.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspect be detained for 2 more days.
