Woman arrested at Ercan airport for carrying cannabis
A woman was arrested on her arrival at Ercan Airport in north Cyprus on Sunday for drugs following a search carried out on her which was triggered by a narcotics detector dog.
The suspect, identified as Ö.A, a Turkish national was arrested and brought to court on Monday March 17 on charges of "Illegal Importation and Possession of a Controlled Drug
(Cannabis)".
According to report on the matter, the suspect was arrested at around 12:20 PM on Sunday March 16 when the narcotics detector dog Pamir reacted towards the suspect upon her entry into the TRNC at Ercan Airport.
A search of her person and belongings led to the discovery of a total of 10 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, which was seized as evidence.
The police noted that the suspect was taken into custody and an investigation was initiated, with the seized substance sent for analysis.
The police requested an additional three-day detention period for further investigation.
