Two die in separate accidents in north Cyprus

Two separate traffic accidents in a single day resulted in the deaths of two people in northern Cyprus.

The first accident occurred in Yenierenköy at around 8:00 pm on Tuesday March 18 when a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Umut Göksal collided with a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Cevdet Gül in front of the Yenierenköy Health Center while both were traveling west to east.

Due to the impact, Göksal’s car overturned and crashed into the iron railings of a residence, flipped over, and landed on its roof inside the house’s garden, resulting in his death at the scene. Meanwhile, Gül’s vehicle also veered off the road and stopped on the sidewalk.

Three others, Cevdet Gül (25), Adem Mertgül (18), and Gökhan Güney (16) were injured in the accident and were taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital for treatment.

In another accident that happened at around 9:50 pm on Tuesday March 18 in Girne, 48-year-old pedestrian Ogün Aldemir lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Naci Talat Street. 

Due to the carelessness of the driver, Miraç Genç, Aldemir was hit while crossing the street and sustained severe injuries. Despite all medical interventions at the hospital, he could not be saved.

The driver, Miraç Genç, was taken into custody by the police.
