Two arrested in north Cyprus for pretending to be doctors
Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in north Cyprus for posing as doctors, Turkish Cypriot police said on Saturday.
The police said the pair identified as CV, 28 and DB, 25 had between Tuesday and Friday been in Haspolat area, and had administered a serum treatment and offered other drugs.
Police said both suspects who are Turkish Cypriot introduced themselves as doctors despite not being members of the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB).
Further investigations found that the pair had forged a prescription in the name of a private hospital and taken 27,000TL from their victim as an “examination fee”.
They were brought to court on Saturday charged with "acting against the Medical Association Law, forging documents, putting forged documents into circulation and obtaining money by fraud."
Police stated that between March 4-7, the suspects introduced themselves as doctors, although they were not members of the Medical Association, and went to the residence of one SD, a 75-year-old woman, in Haspolat, examined her, administered a serum and medication, then wrote a prescription for a hospital, forged documents and fraudulently obtained 27,000 TL as the examination fee.
Police announced that information about the incident was received yesterday and both suspects were arrested and an investigation was launched.
The police said that the suspects gave voluntary statements confessing to their crimes. They stated that the investigation had just started and that there were statements to be taken and requested that the suspects be detained for 3 days.
Suspect CV who spoke in court stated that they did not endanger human life. The second suspect DB stated that what they did was wrong.
