Two arrested in Famagusta following a break-in and murder attempt
A supermarket owner and his father were attacked with a knife in Gazimağusa while trying to intervene in a burglary incident at their store early Saturday morning.
The store owner sustained minor injuries, while his father was seriously injured in the abdomen.
The incident happened at around 03:40 AM on Saturday March 15 when two individual, aged 14 and 22 tried to break into a supermarket in Gazimağusa's Karakol neighborhood.
The situation escalated into a murder attempted when the owner of the market and his father who tried to intervene were injured, one seriously.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, an unidentified man and a woman entered the supermarket through a window and attempted to steal alcoholic drinks. However, they were caught in the act by the store owner and his father.
The male suspect then attacked the victims with a knife, injuring: S.Y.A. (24), the store owner, who suffered a minor wound to his left palm. S.A. (65), the father, who was seriously wounded in the abdomen.
S.Y.A. was treated at Gazimağusa State Hospital and later discharged, while S.A. underwent surgery and remains under observation in the Surgical Ward.
Following an extensive investigation, police identified and arrested the suspects, T.Ö. (22) and M.N.M. (14). The investigation is still ongoing.
