Three arrested in drug operation in north Cyprus

Three individuals were arrested after being caught with drugs in a drug operation in Kyrenia.

The suspects İEL, KŞ and ÖG, who are all Turkish nationals were arrested on the morning of Tuesday March 12, within the scope of the “Package Operation” held in Kyrenia. They were brought to court on Tuesday on drug charges.

Police in a court statement said that Operation Package was launched in light of information received that drugs were found in the vehicle used by the suspect and that drugs were being sold.

Approximately 2 grams of drugs wrapped in nylon were found in the right front pocket of the suspect IEL during a search.

A rolled-up 50 TL bill, thought to have drug residue on it, was found in the center console of the back seat during a search of the vehicle.

Police noted that during the search conducted at the suspects’ homes on the same day, 9 packages of black nylon bags wrapped with transparent gelatin on the outside, used to store narcotics, were found in a garbage bin on the balcony and taken as evidence.

The police said IEL, confessed in his statement that on February 24, under the direction of a wanted person, he and KS bought 280 grams of drugs from a location in Gönyeli, that they came to the residence and packaged them in 3 grams each to be ready for sale, that they left the remaining 56 grams in two different locations under the direction of the same person and that they used some of it.

Police said IEL also admitted to stashing 45 of the 72 packages ready for sale in the garage of his apartment building.

Noting that the investigation was completed, the police requested that the suspects be remanded in custody until trial.

The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a term not exceeding 2 months.
