Student who threw a bag containing cannabis out of a vehicle and ran away arrested by the police

An individual who threw a bag out of a vehicle in which he was a passenger in and fled the scene after the vehicle was stopped by the police has been arrested for drugs.

The suspect identified only as RT., 34 was arrested after throwing half a kilo of drugs from a suspicious vehicle that was stopped on the Lefkosia-Famagusta main road and escaping.

He was brought to court on Tuesday.

The police in a court statement said at around 11:45 on Sunday March 16, 2025, the vehicle, which was considered suspicious because it was moving in a zigzagg manner on the Lefkosia-Famagusta main road, was stopped by Demirhan Police Station teams.

Police stated that a male person in the passenger seat threw the bag he had in his possession one and a half meters away from the vehicle and ran away, and that the bag was taken as evidence and the driver, EE. was arrested.

Police said that during a search of the bag, 500 grams of a substance believed to be a cannabis type drug were found.

Noting that the driver was taken to court and given an additional 3 days detention period, the police said that the escaped suspect, RT, was identified and arrested in Lefkosa.

Police stated that the drugs were sent for analysis, that they detected camera footage in the area for two months, and that these images will be examined.

Police noted that 5 people were questioned and that fingerprints on the drug package would be examined.

Noting that the statements to be taken were the expected analysis results, police said that the suspects' mobile phones would also be examined. In this context, and requested that suspect be detained for 2 days.
