Student arrested for drugs and causing disturbance diagnosed with substance use disorder
A student who was arrested for causing public disturbance and drugs in Lefkosa and brought to court under heavy police presence was found to had enrolled in 3 schools in 3 years and failed to attend, and had been diagnosed with substance use disorder.
The suspect identified as A.K.O., 36 was arrested at around 10am on Tuesday March 25 for shouting and causing a disturbance on Yusuf İzzet Street in Lefkoşa.
He was brought to court on Wednesday March 26 and again on Friday March 28 accompanied by a large police force.
The police said the suspect was brought to the hearing in handcuffs because he made aggressive moves. Four police officers were on standby with the suspect during the hearing, while a police officer explained the facts to the court.
Police stated that it was determined that the suspect was staying in an apartment in the same location and that as a result of the search conducted at his house, a grinder believed to contain residue of cannabis type drugs and a burnt-end rolled cigarette believed to contain residue of drugs were found in the living room of the residence and evidence was taken.
Police said the suspect was arrested and an investigation was launched due to the crime.
Police said the suspect was taken to court and a 2-day additional detention order was issued, during which time the drugs were sent for analysis.
During the investigation, they determined that the suspect had registered in 3 different schools in 3 years but did not attend school.
The suspect was checked at the Barış Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital and was diagnosed with substance use disorder.
The police officer stated that the investigation was completed, that the suspect was not attending school even though he was registered as a student, and that he had previously been arrested for "causing deliberate damage and disturbance", and requested that he remain in detention until trial.
The suspect, who displayed tense behavior in court, wanted to cause trouble but was prevented by the police.
The judge ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding one month until trial.
