Scabies Outbreak at Primary school in north Cyprus: 15 student infected
Atatürk Primary School in Lefkosa, north Cyprus has been affected by a scabies outbreak, with 15 students and 1 teacher infected.
According to the report on Monday, students who were at risk of contracting scabies were sent home. The school has been disinfected for the past two days, and classrooms have been reorganized.
The school administration confirmed that treatment has begun for students diagnosed with scabies, while potential cases have been sent home. The school has undergone disinfection for two days, and classrooms have been reorganized.
The Primary Education Department Directorate announced that the necessary measures regarding the scabies disease until Friday of last week were taken by both the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health.
The directorate stated that the contact between students in the schoolyard is minimized and the common areas in the school are periodically cleaned and disinfected, and announced that 15 more students who came to school today were sent home due to suspicion.
In a written statement regarding the issue, the Primary Education Department Directorate stated that 15 students and 1 teacher at the Atatürk Primary School in Lefkoşa were diagnosed with scabies by a dermatologist and venereal disease specialist as of Friday.
It was noted that after the issue came to the attention of the Primary Education Department, the Ministry of Health Primary Health Services Department was contacted and, as recommended, the tables, chairs, doors and door handles were disinfected with bleach after the students left the school.
The statement said, "The Primary Education Department immediately provided the school with the necessary cleaning materials and the classrooms and branch rooms were disinfected as directed by the Primary Health Services Department. In addition, the branch rooms were closed. The school administration informed the students at the National Anthem ceremony on Friday that those who showed symptoms of the disease on Monday would be sent home and would not be accepted to school without a doctor's report."
In the statement, it was pointed out that 15 students were not allowed into the classroom today due to the suspicion of their class teachers and school principal, and their parents were informed and sent home, and it was noted that in line with the measures, areas where all groups will play were determined in the school, and the contact of students in the school yard was minimized. It was also stated that common areas were periodically cleaned and disinfected.
