Northern Cyprus recorded 5 femicides and over 6,000 violence against women in the last 6 years
According to official data, 5 women were murdered and 6,256 women were subjected to violence in the last 6 years in northern Cyprus.

Violence against women in the north Cyprus has reached frightening levels. The figures described as the “tip of the iceberg” were reflected in police data.
According to the data shared with YENÄ°DÃœZEN by the Department of Combating Violence Against Women, when the types of crimes were examined, it was striking that the most common crime was "assault".
According to official data, 103 women applied to the Department of Combating Violence Against Women, which was established on November 25, 2018, in a period of more than a month, on the grounds that they were subjected to violence. The number dropped to 97 because 6 people did not give a statement.
One year after the establishment of the relevant unit, the painful data of violence against women reflected in the police records showed that there were 1047 cases of violence against women in just one year.
On March 8, 2020, a woman named Elif Lort was murdered and the defendant was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
In 2021, a total of 1,064 women were subjected to violence, while another woman was murdered. The defendant who killed Dam Thi Hop was sentenced to 39 years in prison last February.
In 2022, 957 women were subjected to violence.There were three murders in 2023. 16-year-old Zehie Helin Reessur was brutally murdered in January, and 37-year-old Kübra Aydın was killed in September.
In December, Ayça Alav was killed by two people.While the defendant who killed Helin was sentenced to life imprisonment, Kübra Aydın's lifeless body was placed in a car by her murderer and rolled down the cliff with her murderer.The judicial process regarding the defendants who murdered Ayça Alav continues.
