Northern Cyprus police launch the use of body cameras in traffic and public order inspections
The northern Cyprus General Directorate of Police has started using body cameras in order to increase transparency in traffic and public order inspections throughout the country.
The police said the aim of the application is to protect the rights of both police officers and citizens.
Following the pilot application in Kyrenia and Lefkoşa, the system has been put into operation nationwide.
The body cameras are capable of recording audio and video.
According to the statement made by the General Directorate of Police, body cameras that can record audio and video have begun to be used in traffic and public order inspections.
The system, which was implemented in the districts of Kyrenia and Lefkoşa, which were selected as pilot regions, was expanded throughout the country after receiving positive feedback.
Authorities stated that the use of body cameras will increase trust in police-public relations, ensure transparency in inspections and create a fair evaluation environment by recording possible allegations.
Body cameras, which will be used in fixed and mobile traffic controls, will help detect traffic violations committed by drivers. They will also record incidents that may occur between police and citizens during public order controls in public areas.
The General Directorate of Police emphasized that the new system was put into effect to both strengthen public trust and ensure objectivity in inspection processes.
The body cameras, which were put into practice within the scope of the "Transparency and Trust in Traffic Inspections Project," are expected to make the inspection environment across the country more fair and reliable.
