Mobile Immigration Point vehicles facilitate and accelerate the detection of irregular immigrants in Türkiye. This application, which is the first in the world and only in Türkiye, will soon be implemented in the TRNC.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in a meeting with TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel in Ankara last week, stated that a migration center would be quickly established and put into operation in the TRNC and that Mobile Migration Point vehicles would be deployed to north Cyprus as well.
WHAT ARE MOBILE MIGRATION POINT VEHICLES?
"Mobile Immigration Point" vehicles were designed to speed up and facilitate the detection of foreigners who cannot present their ID during identity checks by security forces.
A migration expert and translator are on duty in the vehicles. Foreigners who cannot present their ID are invited to these vehicles and their fingerprints and biometric data are checked against the “GöçNet” database. If the person does not have the legal right to stay, they are sent to repatriation centers to begin deportation procedures.
THE APPLICATION STARTED AS A PILOT AND SPREAD TO 30 MAJOR CITIES
The application was launched as a pilot in Istanbul on July 19, 2023, and thanks to its success, it was spread to 30 major cities as of December 1, 2023. The number of vehicles in Istanbul reached 103, and a total of 162. In this way, inspections were made more intense and effective.
This application is a world first in Türkiye's fight against irregular migration by effectively using technology, speeding up processes and making the job of security forces easier.
