Man wanted for defrauding 3 people with the promise of bringing them to north Cyprus for work arrested

Man who had been wanted for two months for defrauding three people with the promise of bringing foreign workers, has been sent to prison.

The suspect SB who is alleged to had defrauded three people by promising to bring foreign workers to north Cyprus was arrested and brought to court at the weekend on charges of "Obtaining Money by Fraud."

The police reported that the suspect had been wanted everywhere for two months and was apprehended in Lefkoşa on February 25.

According to the police, between June and October 2024 in Lapta, the suspect, with the intention to defraud, took 30,800 Euros from one person by promising to legally bring 22 people from Sri Lanka to the island, 3,000 Euros from another by promising to obtain a U.S. visa, and 174,000 TL from another by claiming he would bring 6 people from Bangladesh to the island.

The police stated that following the report of the incident, an advanced investigation was carried out, and the suspect was located and arrested in Lefkoşa on February 25, 2025. Officer Hatice Şanverdi noted that the money taken from the victims could not be recovered and mentioned that the suspect had an open case for a similar offense, requesting that he be held in custody pending trial.

The judge ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
