Man sentenced to 8 years in prison for r*ping an under age girl in north Cyprus

The Kyrenia High Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 8 years in prison after he was found guilty of r*ping a 14-year-old girl in 2022.

The case against the defendant, Utku Selçuklu, a Turkish national who was charged with rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault of a girl under the age of 16 was concluded on Wednesday March 19, 2025.

The incident took place in 2022 when the complainant was 14 years old.

Delivering the unanimous decision taken by the court, the chief judge stated that they evaluated all the elements when determining the sentence for the convicted defendant.

The judge pointed out that sexual crimes were increasing and that deterrent punishments should be given.

Stating that the victims of this crime experienced trauma and could not get over it throughout their lives, the judge said sexual rape crimes committed against physical integrity also caused deep wounds in the person's soul.

After considering all the issues in favor and against the defendant, the judge announced that they sentenced him to 8 years in prison.
