Man detained for shopping with stolen bank card
An employee of a business in Lefkosa has been remanded in custody on court order for allegedly shopping with his boss bank card he found on the floor.
The suspect named as KA on Feb. 21 for theft and fraud.
Police said that the suspect stole the bank card that the owner had dropped at a university petrol station in Lefkosia between 15-19 February 2025.
Police said the suspect used the bank card in question to withdraw a total of 2,780 TL via contactless transactions at various locations.
Police said that the suspect was identified and arrested in Lefkosia on February 21, and that the bank card was found on him.
Since his arrest, he was taken to court twice and held in police custody for 11 days.
Noting that the suspect confessed to his crime, the police emphasized that an investigation was launched on February 22 upon a complaint from officials of the company where the suspect worked.
The police announced that as a result of the investigation launched, they determined that the suspect sold various brands and quantities of alcoholic drinks belonging to the company to five different markets between 31.07.2024 and 13.02.2025 and did not deposit a total of 428,302.48 Turkish Liras into the company's account.
Noting that the investigation was ongoing, the police stated that there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, and requested that the suspect be detained for another 4 days.
