Man arrested on return to North Cyprus 15 years after he was wanted for forging fake documents

A man who allegedly tried to get two individuals out of north Cyprus via Ercan Airport with fake documents in 2009, was caught 15 years later on his return to the country.

The suspect identified as KD was arrested at Ercan airport on March 13, 2025 in connection with a case instituted against him in 2009.

He was brought to court on Friday.

Explaining the situation in court, police prosecutor said the suspect, who was present in the Ercan Airport passenger departure lounge on May 1, 2009, illegally ensured that two individuals, ÖG and AS would be given a forged TRNC and KTC identity card to the airline officer who was handling the ticket and baggage procedures, in order to take them to England.

ÖG and AS were tried for crimes and were deported after being convicted.

Police stated that KD's name was later identified because he changed his surname and a warrant was obtained against him.

A message was sent for the suspect to be arrested when he arrived in the country.

The police stated that the suspect was detected when he entered the TRNC on March 13, 2025.

The police stated that the suspect changed his surname because he did not like it.

Noting that the investigation was ongoing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
