Man arrested at police department for living in north Cyprus without a permit

An individual who was found living in north Cyprus without a residence permit was arrested and detained for one day.

The suspect, identified as MR from Bangladesh was arrested at on the morning of Tuesday March 3 when he visited the Lefkosa police department to obtain a document.

He was brought to court charged with illegal residency in north Cyprus.

Police told the court that the suspect came to the Criminal Branch Office of the Lefkosia Police Directorate when he was arrested.

During an immigration check, it was determined that he had been residing in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 355 days since March 14, 2024.

The police, who arrested the suspect and initiated an investigation, noted that there were statements to be taken and that they would conduct inquiries at the Civil Immigration Department. 

They also mentioned that a letter would be issued for deportation procedures and requested that the suspect be detained for one day.
