Individual arrested for living in north Cyprus without a residence permit

An individual who was arrested for living in north Cyprus without a residence permit was brought to court and may face deportation.

The individual identified only as MK was arrested early Sunday morning in Kyrenia.

He was brought to court on Sunday charged with "Residing in the TRNC without Permission from the Authorities".

The police said the suspect was found on Malazgirt Street in Kyrenia at around 3:40 am on Sunday March 23, 2025.

During immigration check carried out on him, it was determined that he had been residing in the north of Cyprus without a residence permit since 12 May 2022.

The police stated that time was needed to investigate whether the suspect had committed any crimes during his stay without a residence permit and requested that he be detained for 3 more days at the first stage.
