"I'm a drug addict": Suspect caught with drugs tells court

Two individuals who were caught by the police with drugs in Gönyeli due to their suspicious behavior, have been charged with drug possession and will be detained for three days as part of the investigation.

The suspects, GTC and CT were brought to court on Saturday charged with “Illegal Possession of Narcotic Substances (Synthetic Cannabinoid)”.

Police officer who testified in court, stated that on March 28, 2025, at around 3:00 PM, a patrol team from Gönyeli Police Station, while patrolling Belediye Boulevard, approached two individuals who appeared suspicious in a vehicle. At that moment, suspect GTC, who was a passenger in the vehicle, attempted to put a substance into her mouth as she got out of the car. The police intervened and forcefully retrieved the package, which was suspected to contain drugs.

The police reported that both GTC and the driver, CT, were caught in the act and arrested. Initial tests on the seized substance indicated that it was approximately 1 gram of synthetic cannabinoid (known as "bonzai"). 

The officer stated that the investigation was still ongoing, and the seized substance would be sent for analysis. He also noted that the suspects' statements would be verified and requested that the suspects remain in police custody for an initial period of three days to ensure the smooth progress of the investigation.

In court, suspect CT declared that he was a drug addict and requested a medical examination.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspects remain in police custody for three days for investigative purposes and that CT undergo a medical examination.
