Four students arrested for drugs hidden in bread loaves: Two released on bail
Two of four suspects who were arrested for dealing in drugs after they were found with a total of 15 grams of cannabis-type drugs hidden in bread were released on bail by the court.
The suspects EPI., 28 (f) a Nigerian, PMM., 31 (m), a Zimbabwean, KM., 29 (m), a Zimbabwean and EIG., (m), a Zimbabwean were arrested in Gönyeli on February 26, 2025 by police team patrolling the Gönyeli Yenikent area.
They were brought to court on charges of “illegal possession of drugs” held in detention following several court appearance.
They were brought back to court again on Sunday March 9.Presenting the facts in court, the police stated that on February 26, 2025, at around 8:15,pm a Crime Prevention Branch (CÖŞ) team affiliated with the Lefkosia Police Department noticed EIG and PMM behaving suspiciously in the parking lot of a café in the Gönyeli Yenikent area during a patrol.
The police reported that during a search, they found two separate plastic bags, each containing four mini bread rolls wrapped in wax paper, in the right pocket of EIG’s black jacket. Two of these rolls contained substances believed to be cannabis, each wrapped in foil and weighing approximately one gram.
The police further stated that, during interrogation, it was learned that the suspects had arrived at the scene in a vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle in the same parking lot, they found KM sitting in the back seat.
The police noted that next to KM, on the seat, there were 18 plastic bags containing mini bread rolls, some of which had substances believed to be cannabis wrapped in foil.
The police reported that a total of 74 mini bread rolls were found during the investigation, 18 of which contained substances believed to be cannabis, each weighing approximately one gram. These substances were seized as evidence.
In the advanced investigation, the police determined that the suspects had obtained the drugs hidden inside the bread rolls from EPI. They stated that EPI was located in Lefkosia and brought to the Gönyeli Police Station for further questioning.
The police added that after the suspects were brought to court and received a one-day extension, EPI confessed, stating that she threw the drugs off her balcony because she was scared when she saw the police. During a search around her house based on her directions, 21 grams of cannabis and 28 pills suspected to be drugs were found and seized as evidence.
The police also reported that a second search of EPI's vehicle resulted in the discovery of 3 pills suspected to be drugs. They stated that, as a result of the investigation, EIG had been in the country without a residence permit for 1,550 days, and PMM for 20 days, requesting that they be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months.
The police stated that the other two suspects were students and that charges of possession and acquisition of drugs were brought against KM, while EPI faced charges of possession, acquisition, and distribution of drugs, requesting bail for them.
The judge ordered that KM pay a cash bail of 40,000 TL, with two guarantors signing a bail bond of 400,000 TL each, and that he report to the police once a week.
The court ordered EPI to pay a cash bail of 60,000 TL, with two guarantors signing a bail bond of 700,000 TL each, and that she report to the police twice a week.
The judge also ordered that the other two suspects without residence permits be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months.
