Drunk student stabs university dormitory receptionist and security
A student who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol stabbed a receptionist and a security guard working at a university dormitory in Haspolat.
The incident happened at a student dormitory at the Cyprus international university located in Haspolat on Thursday March 6.
The student identified as MC, a Turkish national was arrested and brought to court on Friday on charges of “causing injury, carrying a knife with the intent to intimidate, possessing a knife while drunk, disturbance and the unlawful carrying of a knife”
Police in a court statement said the incident happened at around 9.40 pm on Thursday in the lobby of the Buffavento male dormitory at the Cyprus International University.
Police said the suspect, who is a student of the university, while under the influence of alcohol, swing a knife he was illegally in possession of towards the dormitory receptionist WC. He caused a cut on WC's left hand who had tried to take the knife to protect himself.
The police emphasized that I.HO, who was working as a guard at the school and tried to take the knife from the suspect's hand, also had a cut on his right hand.
Stating that the investigation is ongoing, the police stated that it should be investigated whether the suspect was an active student at the university.
Police said they will investigate whether there are security cameras at the scene and whether there are any eyewitnesses to the incident.
The police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days during the investigation phase.
