Cyprus set for unseasonably warm weather with temperatures soaring up to 31°C this weekend
Continued sunny conditions are set to persist across Cyprus with no rainfall expected until at least the beginning of next week, according to the latest 10-day meteorological assessment by KitasWeather.
The unseasonable warmth is set to intensify as an exceptionally warm air mass from Africa moves across the region, pushing temperatures significantly above normal seasonal levels through the weekend, with some inland areas potentially exceeding 30°C.
Thursday’s forecast indicates predominantly clear conditions with occasional thin high cloud, with temperatures rising 6-10°C above seasonal norms. Nicosia can expect temperatures around 28°C, coastal areas between 24-27°C, and mountain regions (Troodos at 1900m) approximately 15°C, with zero precipitation probability across all regions.
According to KitasWeather, By Friday, fully sunny conditions will prevail as temperatures continue climbing to 7-11°C above normal ranges. Nicosia is expected to reach approximately 29°C, eastern coastal regions 24-26°C, and other coastal areas 27-29°C, while Troodos will see temperatures around 17°C.
The weekend forecast shows temperatures peaking at 8-13°C above seasonal averages, with Saturday and Sunday both potentially reaching 31°C in Nicosia and 27-29°C along coastal regions. Meteorologists note that thin atmospheric dust will be present during this period, though mainly confined to several kilometres above surface level.
Monday will bring partially to mostly cloudy conditions with high and medium-level cloud cover, though precipitation remains unlikely. A slight temperature decrease is expected, though readings will remain 7-11°C above seasonal norms.
From mid-next week, forecasters anticipate a more pronounced cooling trend as the exceptionally warm air mass gradually retreats, with temperatures potentially returning to more typical seasonal levels. Early indications suggest some possibility of rainfall developing later next week, with mountain temperatures potentially dropping low enough to support snowfall in Troodos.
Wind conditions through Thursday will shift from variable at 1-2 Beaufort to northeasterly and southeasterly at 3-4 Beaufort. From Friday through early next week, winds will begin as variable at 1-2 Beaufort before transitioning to sea breezes at 2-4 Beaufort, with a tendency toward strengthening westerly winds by mid-next week.
