Ambulance stolen by patient at a hospital in northern Cyprus

An ambulance parked on the premises of the Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Girne was taken away (stolen) by a patient in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at around 4:00 am on Wednesday March 12 when the ambulance that was parked at Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia was taken away by an unidentified person who came to the hospital at midnight.

According to a statement by Akçiçek Hospital Chief Physician Beyhan Berova, regarding the incident, he said, “ The patient came to the hospital at 12 midnight and the incident occurred when he was discharged at around 4:00am. Thanks to the cameras in our hospital, the ambulance was found and the person who stole it was also identified and caught in a short time.”

The police said the incident came to their attention at around 5:00 am and as a result of the work carried out by the traffic teams affiliated with the Girne Police Department, the ambulance was found abandoned in the Güzelyalı District of Karşıyaka.

As part of the investigation conducted by the police, it was determined that the person who used the ambulance without permission and authorization from the owner was identified as HHA, a 54-year-old Turkish Cypriot man..

The 54-year-old man was arrested by the police, and the police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

**** Note that in northern Cyprus, there is no law against vehicle theft. Instead offenders are charged with unauthorized used of vehicles.
