Woman sent to prison for stealing bag worth 1,500 Turkish Lira in north Cyprus
A woman who stole a bag worth 1,500 TL from a shopping store in Lefkoşa, deliberately broke the lid of the water tank in the toilet while she was in custody.
The suspect named only as İ.S was arrested and brought to court for theft.
Police in a court testimony stated that the suspect, who went to the Jumbo shopping store operating on Özker Özgür Street in Lefkoşa as a customer on February 18, took a black women's bag worth 1,499 TL on sale, put it on her shoulder and took it out of the store without paying.
The police said that on February 19, 2025, a warrant was obtained against the suspect and she was found at her residence. During the search conducted at her residence in accordance with a court order, the woman's bag that she had stolen was found at her residence and taken as evidence.
The police stated that the suspect was arrested on the same day and an investigation was launched, and that on February 19 at around 12.10, while she was being held in the detention cells of the Atatürk Square Police Station affiliated to the Lefkosia Police Department, the suspect deliberately and illegally broke the water tank cover of the ceramic toilet in the women's toilet by throwing it on the ground.
The police stated that the suspect had pending cases for house breaking, theft, intentional damage, and carrying a knife illegally, and that she was a person with a tendency to commit crimes, and requested that she be detained without conviction in the central prison for a period not exceeding one month.
The judge who evaluated the testimony, ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
