Woman arrested for stealing jewelry worth 123,000 TL, 28,000 TL in cash, and 350 Euros from her employer in north Cyprus

A woman who works as a nanny at a residence in Gönyeli in north Cyprus was arrested for accusation of stealing from her employers.

The suspect identified only as M.K., was arrested and brought to court on Wednesday February 5 on charges of "theft".

Police officer who testified against the suspect in court said between January 15, 2025, and February 4, 2025, the suspect, who was working as a babysitter at the residence of one M.A. in Gönyeli, stole jewelry worth 123,000 TL, 28,000 TL in cash, and 350 Euros, which were kept in an unlocked steel safe inside a wardrobe in the upstairs bedroom.

The police reported that the suspect was found in Gönyeli and arrested under a detention order. 

During a search of the suspect's bag, five quarter gold coins, one British pound, and 1,450 Euros were found and seized as evidence.

The police stated that the suspect confessed to the crime in their statement and mentioned that further statements need to be taken and some stolen items are still missing. 

The officer requested an additional two days for the investigation to continue.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered the suspect to remain in custody for two more days.
