Unstable weather brings rain and snow across Cyprus

A weak low-pressure system is affecting the region, bringing unsettled weather with rain, storms, and snowfall in higher areas.

Today, skies will be partly cloudy, becoming mostly cloudy at times. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, increasing as the day progresses. Snowfall will continue in the highest mountain areas.

Winds will blow mainly from the northwest to northeast, ranging from light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the east and southeast coastal areas, winds could strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough.

Temperatures will reach 13 degrees Celsius inland, 16 degrees Celsius along the coast, and 4 degrees Celsius in the highest mountains, where frost is expected.

Tonight, conditions will remain partly cloudy, with rain easing and mainly affecting coastal areas. A few isolated thunderstorms remain possible. Winds will stay northwest to northeast, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain slightly rough.

Overnight temperatures will drop to 5 degrees Celsius inland, 7 degrees Celsius along the coast, and -2 degrees Celsius in the highest mountains, where frost will persist.

On Wednesday, the weather will stay unsettled with cloud cover, scattered showers, and isolated thunderstorms, along with snow in the highest mountains.

On Thursday, skies will clear gradually. Some isolated showers may occur in the morning, but by midday, conditions will turn mostly sunny.

By Friday, the weather will be mainly clear, though local cloud cover may increase in the afternoon.

No significant change in temperature is expected until Thursday, with values staying below average for this time of year. However, by Friday, temperatures will rise to near seasonal norms.

As of the latest update, snow depths measured 13 cm in Troodos Square and 10 cm in Chionistra.

Authorities advise residents in mountainous areas to exercise caution due to icy roads and frost. Coastal regions may also experience sudden showers and possible thunderstorms.
