Two people arrested for drug possession in Lefkosa and Ercan Airport

Two people were arrested in Lefkoşa, northern Cyprus and Ercan Airport after illegal drugs were found in their possession.

According to police reports, at around 5:00 pm on Friday January 31, traffic teams from the Lefkoşa Police Department stopped a vehicle for inspection on Şehit Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street. Due to the suspicious behavior of a passenger, Y.S. (Male, 24), a search was conducted in the vehicle, revealing a partially burned cigarette believed to contain cannabis residue. 

A subsequent search of the suspect’s person led to the discovery of approximately 3 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, which was seized as evidence. The suspect was taken into custody.

In similar incident at Ercan Airport at around 9:00 pm on the same day, a narcotics detection dog reacted to a suitcase belonging to one I.Ü. (Female, 28), who had just entered the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). 

A search of the suitcase uncovered a cigarette butt believed to contain cannabis, which was seized as evidence. The suspect was also taken into custody.

The police investigation is ongoing.
