Two men on drug overdose found sleeping in a car in the middle of a road sent to prison
Two men who were found unconscious in a vehicle in the middle of a major road in North Cyprus have been sent to prison.
The
two men identified as S.K., 29, the driver of the vehicle and C.A., 50,
a passenger were found unconscious in the vehicle that caused a traffic
jam on the Lefkosia-Famagusta main road on Feb. 12.
The suspect
CA was detected in Gönyeli on Feb. 13 while the suspect S.K. was caught
while attempting to leave the country through Ercan Airport on Feb. 14.
They were taken to court following the incident.
Police stated
that on Feb. 12, 2025, following the circulation of images of the two
men unconscious on social media, a large-scale investigation was
launched by the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate due to
suspicions that the individuals might be under the influence of drugs.
As
part of the investigation, during a search of the vehicle found in
Gönyeli, approximately 100 mg of a white-colored paper containing
narcotic substances, a pair of scissors with drug residue, and 3 straws
with traces of drugs were found and taken as evidence.
The police
reported that S.K, knowing he was wanted, was apprehended at Ercan
airport while attempting to leave the country. The suspects admitted to
purchasing drugs for 500 TL each and using them while driving on the day
of the incident.
According to the police, S.K initially drove the vehicle, but after losing consciousness, C.A took over; however, he was also unable to continue driving due to the effects of the drugs, leading them to be stranded on the road.
Police stated that while S.K provided blood and urine samples, C.A refused to do so.
He also noted that the suspects had been brought to court twice and had been granted an additional 11 days for investigation. During this period, S.K's blood and urine samples, along with the seized evidence, were sent for analysis.
The police stated that the part of the investigation that could be influenced by the suspects was complete. They also mentioned that C.A had a student registration but was unable to continue his education due to financial difficulties, while C.K's work permit had expired on 5 May 2024, and he was already under bail conditions for a traffic accident and failure to comply with a court order.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
