Two arrested on tip off for selling drugs from South Cyprus

Two individuals who were caught with drugs during an operation carried out by Turkish Cypriot police in Lefkoşa, were remanded in police custody pending investigation.

The suspects, OA and OH, were arrested on Tuesday February 18 in a drug operation in Lefkoşa. They were brought before the court on Wednesday.

Police prosecutor told the court that on February 18, it was learned that OA had drugs in his possession and had been selling them. On the same day, police went to the suspect’s residence in Kermiya. Upon noticing the police, the suspects did not open the front door, which was subsequently forced open with reasonable force.

The officer said that OA was found in the corridor, and OH was found in the living room.

The police also informed the court that a search warrant was obtained for the residence. During the search, they found a total of 28 grams of suspected drugs in a transparent bag on a coffee table, 28 grams in a juice box, 60 grams in a blue-painted box, 84 grams in another juice box, and 2 grams of what was believed to be cannabis mixed with tobacco on a tray. These items were seized as evidence.

Additionally, a metal grinder and an electronic weighing scale, both believed to be used for drugs, were confiscated from the suspects.

In OA’s bedroom, a bag containing his identity documents was found along with 3,145 TL, 300 dollars, 1,120 pounds sterling, and 800 TL, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

The police then reported searching OH’s residence in the Küçük Kaymaklı area, where they found 2,000 TL in his wallet and 10 grams of what was believed to be cannabis on a coffee table. In OH’s statement, he claimed to have bought 15 grams of drugs from OA for 300 dollars.

The police further stated that OA admitted to purchasing the drugs via WhatsApp from an individual in South Cyprus, who had directed him to obtain them in Lefkoşa, and that he had sold drugs to people referred to him by this individual.

Additionally, it was discovered that between February 10 and 18, 2025, OA sold 4 grams of drugs to a wanted individual, obtaining 3,600 TL in return, some of which he had already spent.

Both suspects provided voluntary confessions. The police noted that the investigation was ongoing, with additional statements to be taken and other individuals being sought. They requested an additional two days for detention.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that both suspects remain in custody for an additional two days.
