Trump’s AI-generated vision for Gaza sparks widespread criticism
U.S. President Donald Trump has prompted significant controversy after posting an artificial intelligence-generated video depicting his vision for Gaza’s future as a luxury resort, drawing widespread criticism for the portrayal.
The 35-second video, shared on Trump’s Truth Social and Instagram accounts under the handle @raldonaldtrump, portrays a transformed Gaza featuring upscale hotels, nightlife, beachfront amenities, and gold statues of the president himself. The clip opens with the question: “Gaza 2025. What’s next?”.
The controversial portrayal presents a fantastical coastal resort with children playing along the shoreline amid newly constructed hotels built atop existing ruins. Tesla CEO Elon Musk appears in the footage distributing money to visitors and children.
The video is accompanied with a song, the lyrics of which declare: “Donald is coming to set you free, bringing the light for all to see. No more tunnels, no more fear, Trump’s Gaza is finally here, Trump’s Gaza shining, a golden future, a brand new light. The deal is done, Trump’s Gaza number one”.
Additional imagery includes a child holding a golden Trump-shaped balloon and the president enjoying the company of a belly dancer in restaurants.
The video concludes with “Trump’s Gaza” emblazoned on the marquee of the tallest building and a massive golden statue of the Republican president at its centre, with Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu depicted sunbathing on the beach with drinks in hand.
The video, which Trump posted without accompanying text, generated numerous negative comments before many were subsequently removed.
“I voted for you to keep us out of global conflicts. I feel betrayed,” wrote one Instagram user, while another added: “This is a horrible idea and a horrible post”.
The controversial video follows Trump’s earlier suggestion during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Palestinians be permanently relocated outside of Gaza, with the United States assuming ownership of the territory for reconstruction.
This proposal has been rejected by Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Arab League and the Palestinian Authority.
