Three individuals were arrested in north Cyprus for stealing alcoholic drinks worth almost 80,000 Turkish Lira from several markets.According to police report on the matter, the suspects identified only as A.Ö. (43), E.D. (19), and Y.A. (18), who are all Turkish national stole drinks worth a total of 79,187.39 TL from two markets operating in Lefkoşa and Demirhan between February 20-21, 2025.
Following the report of the incident to the police, an investigation led to their identification and arrest.
During a search of their residences in Girne, 51 bottles of alcoholic drinks, 49 packs of chocolate, and personal care products suspected to have been stolen were found and seized.
They were brought to court on Monday Feb. 24 on charges of theft.
Police told the court that, on February 20, 2025, at around 11:00 AM, the three suspects entered a market on Şehit Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street in Lefkoşa. They concealed three bottles of alcoholic drinkss—one worth 29,999 TL, another worth 8,999 TL, and a third worth 14,999 TL—inside their jackets and left without paying.

Security camera footage led police to the rental car company the suspects had used. They were tracked down and arrested on February 23, 2025.
One of the suspects, A.Ö reportedly admitted in his statement that they had planned the thefts in Turkey before coming to Cyprus, intending to steal alcohol and sell the products for profit.
A police search of A.Ö’s residence in Girne uncovered three suitcases containing stolen goods, including alcohol valued at 151,550 TL and various brands of chocolate.
The suspects failed to provide any explanation regarding the stolen goods. As the investigation is still ongoing, with additional security footage yet to be examined, the court approved the police's request to detain them for three more days.
