Student walking on the street of north Cyprus arrested for illegal residency after citizens called the police on him

A student who was walking on a street in Lefkosa was arrested for residing in north Cyprus without a resident permit after an unknown individual notified the police about his movement. 

The individual, named only as GO, was identified and arrested on Tuesday night while walking on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street in Lefkosa.

He was brought to court on Thursday.

Police in a court statement said the student was walking on the Street when he was arrested following a notification they received from citizens who saw him.

During the immigration check on him, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the north of Cyprus without a residence permit for a total of 88 days since September 30, 2024.

Police said there were statements to be taken and correspondence to be made, and requested that he be remanded in custody for one day.
