Man involved in accident in Girne found to be living illegally in north Cyprus
A motorist who was involved in a traffic accident in Girne while under the influence of alcohol and was found to be living illegally in north Cyprus.
The suspect named only as A.Ö, a Turkish national was involved in a traffic accident in Girne on the night of Feb. 25 while under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested and brought to court on Friday.According to police statement, at around 11:50 PM on Feb. 25, 2025, AÖ was involved an accident when he collided with an oncoming vehicle on Şht. Süleyman Recep Street in Girne.
The police stated that a traffic check revealed the suspect had a blood alcohol level of 241 milligrams. Additionally, an immigration investigation determined that he had been residing in the TRNC illegally for 578 days since July 19, 2023.
The police reported that an investigation was launched against the suspect for "careless driving, driving under the influence, and other traffic offenses."
Expressing concerns that the suspect might flee prosecution or commit similar offenses if released, the police requested that he be held in prison for no more than 20 days.
