Man assaults ex-girlfriend in northern Cyprus threatens to k!ll her

In a case of domestic violence in northern Cyprus, a man who was arrested for assaulting his ex girlfriend will face trial for assault.

The suspect, named only as C.T., a Turkish national was arrested in Girne and brought to court charged with "threat of violence and assault".

Police officer who presented the facts in court stated that on Tuesday February 4, 2025, at around 11:30 AM on Selim Street in Girne, the suspect assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Z.A., following a verbal argument inside a moving vehicle. He allegedly pulled her hair, kicked her in the stomach with his right foot, and threatened her saying, "Get out of the car, I will kill you."

The police further stated that after the victim exited the vehicle, the suspect grabbed her by the throat with both hands and slapped her  on her neck.

Following the complaint, the suspect was arrested on the same day, and an investigation was initiated. The officer confirmed that necessary statements had been taken and surrounding security camera footage had been reviewed, concluding the investigation. He requested that the suspect be released on bail.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ruled that the suspect be released under the conditions of depositing 10,000 TL in cash, securing two guarantors to sign a bail bond of 400,000 TL each, a travel ban, and a requirement to check in with the police once a week.
