Man arrested for stealing company's credit card and failing to deliver 428,000 TL to his employer
A staff of a company operating in Lefkosa north Cyprus was detained for allegedly stealing and making unauthorized transaction from his employers company account.
The suspect K.A was identified and arrested on February 21, 2025 on accusation of stealing a bank card and making unauthorized transactions, as well as failing to deposit 428,000 TL belonging to his employer into company accounts.
The suspect was brought to court on Monday for theft and ordered to remain in custody for eight more days as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to police testimony in court, between February 15-19, 2025, between 9:00 PM and 2:00 PM, the suspect stole a bank card that M.D. had dropped at a gas station inside Near East University (YDÜ). He then made a total of 2,780 TL worth of contactless transactions at various locations.
The suspect was identified and arrested on February 21, 2025, with the stolen bank card still in his possession. He was initially remanded for three days.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime. Additionally, on February 22, 2025, representatives of Yüksekbaş Gıda LTD, where the suspect was employed, filed a complaint stating that between July 31, 2024, and February 13, 2025, the suspect had sold various brands and quantities of alcoholic drinks to five different markets but failed to deposit the total amount of 428,000 TL into the company’s account.
The investigation is ongoing, with statements to be collected and security footage still under review. Given these circumstances, the police requested an additional eight-day detention for the suspect, which was approved by the judge.
