Man arrested for assaulting wife in north Cyprus released on bail
A man who was arrested on allegations of assaulting a woman in Lefkosa north Cyprus because she refused to stay with him was released on bail.
The suspect identified as S.G., 26, a resident of Lefkoşa was arrested and brought to court last week charged with serious assault and intentional damage.
Police in a court statement said at around 10:50 pm on February 7, 2025, the suspect, during a verbal argument in the living room of their residence on Tolga Street in Hamitköy, assaulted his wife, M.Y. 26, by pulling her from the back and causing her to fall to the ground.
Following this, he intentionally damaged her belongings by throwing and breaking a blue Redmi Note 9 mobile phone and an Alfa-brand tablet, both of which were in her possession.
The police officer explained that the suspect was arrested following a complaint and that an investigation was initiated. With all necessary statements collected and the investigation completed, the officer requested that the suspect, who resides in the country with a work permit, be released on bail.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ruled that the suspect be released on bail on the condition that he is banned from leaving the country, deposit 30,000 TL in cash as bail, report to the police once a week, and provide a guarantor to sign a bail bond of 300,000 TL.
