Four foreign students arrested for stealing cosmetics products from a supermarket in north Cyprus

Four students, arrested for stealing cosmetics worth 3,710 TL in Demirhan, northern Cyprus were brought before the court.

The four suspects—O.E.M., an Egyptian, A.S, an Egyptian, S.M.S., a Pakistani, and Y.N. an Egyptian, were arrested and brought before the court for theft on Thursday February 13.

According to the police, on February 9, 2025, while the suspects were inside Erülkü Supermarket as customers, they took several cosmetic products from the store's cosmetics section without paying. The stolen items, valued at 3,710.45 TL, included a post-shaving cream, moisturizer, gel cream, men's and women's perfumes. The suspects left the supermarket without paying for the items.

The police report indicated that the incident was reported on February 11, 2025. Surveillance footage revealed that the suspects placed the cosmetics into the pockets of their jackets and exited through checkout lane 13 without making any payments. On February 12, the suspects were arrested and, after voluntarily giving statements, admitted to the theft.

The stolen items were returned to the police in a bag by the suspects. The police noted that the suspects were students with no prior criminal records and requested that the court set bail until their trial.

In response to a question from Y.N's lawyer, the police clarified that Y.N did not place the products in his pockets like the other suspects but was present throughout the incident with them.

The judge ordered that the suspects be banned from leaving the country, deposit a 10,000 TL cash bond each, and report to the authorities every two weeks to confirm their whereabouts.
