Four arrested in university dormitory for fighting

Four students who were involved in a knife fight at a university dormitory in Haspolat, north Cyprus were remanded in police custody.

The incident happened at around 7:20 pm on Saturday Feb 22 at the dormitory of Cyprus International University in Haspolat when four students got into a fight.

The suspects, named only as A.S, B.A, R.M and M.M., were arrested and brought to court on Sunday on charges of “Carrying a Weapon with the Intention of Intimidating, Carrying a Knife Unlawfully, Fighting and Disturbance”.

Police told the court that the suspects A.S and B.A., who are from Kazakhstan and are students at the same school got into a fight with R.M. and M.M., both from Tajikistan and who are students at the same school.

The police stated that the suspects had made statements within the scope of the investigation but they did not give their statements voluntarily and that the examination of the camera footage found inside the dormitory and taken as evidence was continuing

In order for the investigation to be carried out safely, the police requested that the suspects be allowed to remain in police custody for 3 days.

The judge who evaluated the testimony given in court, ordered the suspects to be detained by the police for 3 days for investigation purposes.
