Sharp temperature drop and mountain snow expected today in Cyprus

Cyprus is set for a sharp temperature drop with snowfall expected in mountainous regions, as a cold weather system moves across the island from Thursday, the Cyprus Department of Meteorology said.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy with isolated showers or thunderstorms, primarily in eastern regions.

Temperatures will reach 18 degrees Celsius in coastal and inland areas, dropping to 8 degrees in higher mountain regions.

Moderate to strong southwesterly to northwesterly winds of force 4 to 5 are expected, with slight to moderate sea conditions.

Thursday and Friday will bring intermittent cloudy conditions with scattered showers and mountain snow, while Saturday will see localised rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow is expected to reach semi-mountainous areas by Friday and Saturday.

Meteorologists warn of a marked temperature decrease on Thursday, with further drops through Saturday, pushing temperatures “significantly below” seasonal averages.
