Cyprus set to experience its coldest night of winter as Nicosia/Lefkosa temperatures drop to near zero

Cyprus is set to experience its coldest night of winter, with temperatures expected to drop to 1 degree Celsius inland, the Cyprus Department of Meteorology said on Thursday.

Temperatures will drop to 4C in southeastern and eastern coastal areas, 6C in other coastal regions, and minus 3C in higher mountain areas, according to the forecast.

Frost is expected to form in mountainous, semi-mountainous, and some sheltered inland areas.

The strong northwesterly airstream affecting the region will weaken, with weak high pressure expected from Friday. Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, initially weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, later decreasing to 3 Beaufort.

The sea will become smooth to slight in western areas, slight in the north, and smooth to slight along other coasts.

Friday will be mainly clear with occasional high cloud coverage. Temperatures will rise to around 16C inland and along the coast, and 8C in higher mountain areas.

Saturday will see periods of increased high and medium cloud coverage. Sunday will be predominantly clear, though isolated showers may develop in mountainous areas. Monday will become progressively cloudy with local rain and possible isolated thunderstorms, particularly after midday.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to seasonal averages through Monday.
