Cyprus police arrest 58 in large-scale crackdown on illegal residents
Greek Cypriot police arrested 58 foreign nationals on Sunday in a large-scale operation targeting undocumented migrants residing illegally in the country, authorities said.
According to a police statement, the detainees were of various nationalities and were found to be staying unlawfully in the Republic of Cyprus.
Twenty of those arrested have already been repatriated, while authorities are working on the immediate deportation of the remaining 38, in coordination with other relevant agencies.
The operation took place in the Limassol district and involved officers from the Immigration and Aliens Service, as well as units monitoring the Green Line and irregular migration flows. It began at 5:00 a.m. and concluded around noon.
Police said such efforts to locate and repatriate undocumented migrants continue on a daily basis.
